Weekly News Digest: Sneks, Controllers, and Consumerism

razerlogitechblack-fridayconsumerism

Welcome to the week before Black Friday, where brands frantically remind you that their products exist and would make excellent gifts. Also, Razer made a snake-shaped shopping bag.

Logitech’s Black Friday Sales Pitch

Logitech published what they’re calling “news” but is actually a 1,500-word advertisement titled “Black Friday Just Got Serious.” It’s a catalog of products on sale, ranging from the PRO X SUPERLIGHT 2 at $129.99 to racing wheels and iPad cases.

Notable deals include the G522 Gaming Headset at $129.99 (its first promo ever, apparently), the A50 X at $239.99 with Dolby Atmos, and the RS50 Racing Bundle at $599.99 for sim racers. There’s also a bunch of MX productivity gear and Ultimate Ears speakers if you want to pretend this is about “holiday gifting” rather than moving inventory.

If you were planning to buy Logitech gear anyway, yes, these are genuinely good prices. If you weren’t, well, now you’ve been advertised to.

Razer’s Snake Is Now a Shopping Bag

The Sneki Snek Reusable Bag is here, and it’s exactly what it sounds like: a plushie snake charm that unfolds into a tote bag. Made from 100% recycled polyester, it’s Razer’s first new Sneki Snek product in two years.

Razer claims Sneki Snek has “helped protect over one million trees” through their conservation program, which is genuinely nice. The bag itself is a clip-on plushie that transforms into a full-sized tote “for errands and hauling loot.” It’s cute, it’s sustainable, and it’s admittedly the most relatable Razer product ever made—we’ve all needed an emergency bag at some point.

This is the rare gaming accessory your non-gamer friends might actually want.

Razer’s PS5 Controller for People Who Need Advantages

The Raiju V3 Pro is Razer’s new PlayStation 5 controller, officially licensed by Sony and designed for the subset of gamers who believe that hardware is the only thing standing between them and going pro.

Key features: TMR (Tension Magnetic Resistance) thumbsticks for “anti-drift performance,” Pro HyperTriggers with adjustable actuation points, 4 removable mouse-click back buttons, and PBT action buttons that won’t get shiny after 10,000 hours of Call of Duty.

HyDra, the 2023 Call of Duty World Champion, says it gives him “the speed, control, and confidence to clutch up.” Of course he does—he’s paid to say that. But the controller does look legitimately well-engineered for competitive play. Whether you need that engineering or just want it is a question only your credit card can answer.

Logitech Opens a Pop-Up Temple to Mice

The Logitech Experience Store is opening in San Francisco’s Union Square from November 25 through December 24. It’s a pop-up shop featuring the MX Master 4, an “Immersion Wall” where you can manipulate digital art with haptic feedback, and a “larger-than-life MX Master 4 centerpiece” for photos.

There’s also free custom laser engraving for MX Master 4 purchases on weekends. It’s essentially a branded playground for Logitech fans in the Bay Area, which is either delightful or dystopian depending on how you feel about mice-themed retail experiences.

If you’re in San Francisco and want to take a photo with a giant mouse, this is your moment.
